Peter Stuhlmann, while having shown an interest in drawing and art from age seven, he did not begin painting complete pieces until 2007. Not coincidentally, that was also the year he moved from eastern Ontario to the Shuswap region of B.C. It was there that he found his love of art rekindled in the beauty of the landscape.
Entirely self-taught, Peter explores the relationship between landscape, art and music, using almost lyrical movement and energy in line and form to drive his paintings. To that end he finds influence and direction from the world of comic books (as a child, he was deeply impressed in the way superhero comics used the small spaces of their pages to impart as much action and dynamic energy as they did), and Japanese prints, from Georgia O’Keefe to Emily Carr and The Group of Seven.
Peter lives and paints in Chase with his lovely wife Diane and lunatic dog Trixie-Belle, who occasionally walks about with a blue nose from having bumped into one of his fresh paintings.
